Artificial Intelligence-Driven Multidisciplinary Innovations for Sustainable Global Development

Abstract The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed scientific research, industrial innovation, public administration, healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing, finance, environmental management, and urban development. As nations strive to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), AI-driven multidisciplinary innovations have emerged as powerful enablers for addressing complex global challenges, including climate change, food insecurity, healthcare inequality, energy sustainability, disaster management, digital inclusion, and economic resilience. By integrating AI with Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Blockchain, Digital Twins, Robotics, and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), intelligent digital ecosystems are being developed to support sustainable, inclusive, and data-driven decision-making.
This study presents a comprehensive review of Artificial Intelligence-driven multidisciplinary innovations for sustainable global development. A qualitative analytical research methodology based on secondary data is employed to investigate AI applications across healthcare, agriculture, education, manufacturing, smart cities, environmental monitoring, finance, governance, and disaster risk reduction. The research evaluates the contribution of AI toward improving productivity, sustainability, resource optimisation, public service delivery, and evidence-based policymaking while supporting the achievement of multiple Sustainable Development Goals.
The findings indicate that AI significantly enhances predictive analytics, intelligent automation, healthcare diagnostics, precision agriculture, renewable energy management, climate modelling, digital education, financial inclusion, and smart governance. AI-enabled systems facilitate efficient resource allocation, real-time monitoring, intelligent forecasting, and collaborative decision support, contributing to resilient and sustainable socio-economic development. Furthermore, integrating AI with blockchain, Digital Twins, IoT, and edge intelligence strengthens transparency, cybersecurity, interoperability, and operational resilience across digital ecosystems.
Despite these opportunities, challenges remain concerning ethical governance, algorithmic bias, privacy protection, cybersecurity, workforce transformation, digital inequality, regulatory uncertainty, and environmental impacts associated with AI infrastructure. Future research should investigate explainable AI, federated learning, green AI, quantum-enhanced intelligence, responsible AI governance, and multidisciplinary collaboration to maximise AI’s societal benefits while mitigating associated risks.
The study concludes that Artificial Intelligence serves as a transformative catalyst for multidisciplinary innovation and sustainable global development by enabling intelligent, transparent, resilient, and human-centred digital ecosystems capable of addressing emerging global challenges.
