Cross-Disciplinary Approaches to Cybersecurity and Privacy Preservation in Intelligent Digital Ecosystems

Abstract The rapid evolution of intelligent digital ecosystems has transformed modern society through the widespread adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Blockchain, Big Data Analytics, Digital Twin Technology, 5G/6G communication networks, and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). These technologies have enabled digital transformation across healthcare, finance, education, manufacturing, transportation, smart cities, and public administration. However, the increasing interconnectedness of digital infrastructures has also expanded the cyber threat landscape, exposing organisations and individuals to cyberattacks, data breaches, ransomware, identity theft, insider threats, and privacy violations. Consequently, cybersecurity and privacy preservation have become critical multidisciplinary priorities requiring integrated technological, organisational, legal, ethical, and policy-based solutions.
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of cross-disciplinary approaches to cybersecurity and privacy preservation in intelligent digital ecosystems. A qualitative analytical research methodology based on secondary data is employed to investigate AI-enabled cybersecurity, privacy-preserving machine learning, blockchain-based security frameworks, zero-trust architecture, cryptographic techniques, digital identity management, and governance mechanisms. The research evaluates how emerging technologies enhance cyber resilience, data confidentiality, secure digital communication, regulatory compliance, and trustworthy intelligent systems while supporting sustainable digital transformation.
The findings indicate that integrating Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, cloud security, edge intelligence, privacy-enhancing technologies, and intelligent threat detection significantly improves cyber defence capabilities, attack prediction, intrusion detection, identity verification, secure data sharing, and digital trust. Zero-trust security architectures, federated learning, differential privacy, homomorphic encryption, and secure multi-party computation further strengthen privacy protection across distributed digital environments. Moreover, interdisciplinary collaboration among computer scientists, cybersecurity professionals, legal experts, policymakers, healthcare specialists, engineers, and social scientists is essential for developing resilient digital ecosystems capable of addressing evolving cyber risks.
Despite these opportunities, challenges remain concerning sophisticated cyberattacks, AI-generated threats, regulatory fragmentation, algorithmic bias, interoperability, workforce shortages, implementation costs, and ethical considerations. Future research should investigate explainable cybersecurity AI, quantum-resistant cryptography, autonomous cyber defence, decentralised identity systems, and privacy-preserving intelligent digital twins.
The study concludes that cross-disciplinary cybersecurity and privacy-preserving strategies provide a comprehensive foundation for developing secure, transparent, resilient, and trustworthy intelligent digital ecosystems that support sustainable innovation, digital governance, and global economic development.
