Digital Health Technologies for Improving Global Public Health Outcomes

Abstract The rapid advancement of Digital Health Technologies (DHTs) is transforming healthcare delivery and public health systems worldwide by enabling accessible, data-driven, preventive, and patient-centred care. The convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), Telemedicine, Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Wearable Medical Devices, Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Blockchain, Digital Twin Technology, and Mobile Health (mHealth) applications has significantly improved disease surveillance, remote patient monitoring, early diagnosis, healthcare accessibility, and evidence-based decision-making. These technologies enhance healthcare efficiency, strengthen public health preparedness, reduce healthcare disparities, and support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of Digital Health Technologies for Improving Global Public Health Outcomes. A qualitative analytical research methodology based on secondary data is employed to investigate AI-assisted clinical decision support, telemedicine, wearable health monitoring, digital epidemiology, intelligent health information systems, and data-driven public health management. The research evaluates how emerging digital technologies improve healthcare accessibility, disease prevention, healthcare quality, operational efficiency, emergency preparedness, and health equity across diverse populations.
The findings indicate that digital health technologies significantly enhance healthcare delivery through intelligent diagnostics, predictive analytics, personalised medicine, remote monitoring, vaccination management, epidemic surveillance, and efficient healthcare resource allocation. AI-powered analytics improve clinical accuracy, while IoMT devices and wearable technologies enable continuous patient monitoring. Blockchain enhances data integrity and secure health information exchange, whereas cloud and edge computing facilitate scalable and real-time health data processing.
Despite these opportunities, challenges remain concerning cybersecurity, patient privacy, digital literacy, interoperability, regulatory compliance, infrastructure limitations, algorithmic bias, and equitable technology adoption. Future research should investigate explainable AI for healthcare, federated health learning, digital therapeutics, quantum-assisted medical analytics, and AI-driven digital health twins for personalised medicine.
The study concludes that Digital Health Technologies provide a multidisciplinary foundation for developing intelligent, secure, resilient, and sustainable public health systems capable of improving healthcare quality, accessibility, and global health outcomes.
