Innovation Management Strategies in the Era of Industry 5.0

Abstract Industry 5.0 represents the next stage of industrial evolution, moving beyond the automation-centric paradigm of Industry 4.0 towards a human-centric, resilient, and sustainable manufacturing ecosystem. By integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Collaborative Robots (Cobots), Digital Twin Technology, Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Blockchain, Additive Manufacturing, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), and Extended Reality (XR), Industry 5.0 enables intelligent collaboration between humans and machines while fostering innovation, sustainability, and organisational resilience. As global industries face increasing technological disruption, environmental challenges, and changing customer expectations, effective innovation management strategies have become essential for maintaining competitive advantage and supporting sustainable economic development.
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of Innovation Management Strategies in the Era of Industry 5.0. A qualitative analytical research methodology based on secondary data is employed to investigate human-centred innovation, digital transformation, intelligent manufacturing, collaborative innovation ecosystems, sustainable production, and multidisciplinary organisational strategies. The research evaluates how Industry 5.0 technologies enhance innovation capability, productivity, resilience, sustainability, and customer value creation across manufacturing and service industries.
The findings indicate that Industry 5.0 significantly improves product innovation, mass personalisation, intelligent automation, predictive maintenance, workforce collaboration, energy efficiency, supply chain resilience, and digital decision-making. Artificial Intelligence enhances strategic planning and intelligent process optimisation, while Digital Twin Technology enables real-time simulation and operational optimisation. Collaborative robots improve human–machine interaction, blockchain strengthens transparency and trust within industrial ecosystems, and cloud-edge architectures facilitate scalable and real-time industrial analytics.
Despite these opportunities, challenges remain concerning organisational resistance, workforce skill gaps, cybersecurity risks, interoperability, investment costs, ethical AI implementation, regulatory compliance, and technology integration. Future research should investigate explainable AI for manufacturing, quantum-enhanced industrial optimisation, federated industrial intelligence, autonomous innovation ecosystems, and sustainability-oriented Industry 5.0 governance models.
The study concludes that Industry 5.0 transforms innovation management by integrating advanced digital technologies with human creativity, sustainability, and resilience, enabling organisations to achieve intelligent, adaptive, and socially responsible industrial development.
