Emerging Trends in Renewable Energy Systems and Green Technologies for a Sustainable Future

Abstract Renewable energy systems and green technologies have become fundamental drivers of sustainable development by addressing climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy security, and promoting economic resilience. Rapid technological advancements in Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems, Wind Energy, Hydropower, Geothermal Energy, Hydrogen Energy, Bioenergy, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data Analytics, Smart Grids, Energy Storage Systems, Digital Twin Technology, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Electric Vehicles (EVs), and Carbon Capture Technologies are transforming global energy systems towards cleaner, more efficient, and decentralised energy production.
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of Emerging Trends in Renewable Energy Systems and Green Technologies for a Sustainable Future. A qualitative analytical research methodology based on secondary data is employed to investigate renewable energy innovations, intelligent energy management systems, green technology frameworks, and multidisciplinary sustainability strategies. The research evaluates how renewable energy systems contribute to environmental protection, economic growth, energy efficiency, industrial transformation, smart cities, and climate resilience.
The findings indicate that renewable energy technologies significantly improve energy security, reduce carbon emissions, enhance resource efficiency, support sustainable industrial development, and promote circular economy practices. Artificial Intelligence enables predictive energy management and demand forecasting, while IoT facilitates real-time monitoring of distributed energy resources. Smart grids improve electricity reliability and renewable energy integration, whereas hydrogen technologies and advanced battery storage provide long-term solutions for clean energy transition.
Despite these opportunities, challenges remain concerning high capital investment, energy storage limitations, grid integration complexity, infrastructure development, policy uncertainty, critical mineral supply chains, cybersecurity, and regulatory harmonisation. Future research should investigate AI-enabled autonomous energy systems, next-generation battery technologies, green hydrogen ecosystems, quantum optimisation for energy management, and integrated renewable energy networks supporting net-zero carbon economies.
The study concludes that renewable energy systems and green technologies provide the technological foundation for a sustainable future by integrating intelligent energy management, digital innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and environmentally responsible practices to achieve global energy security and climate neutrality.
