Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection in Intelligent Digital Transformation: An Interdisciplinary Review

Abstract The rapid acceleration of digital transformation has fundamentally reshaped modern organisations, governments, industries, and societies by integrating intelligent technologies into business operations and public services. While Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Blockchain, Edge Computing, Digital Twin Technology, 5G/6G Communication Networks, Machine Learning (ML), Zero Trust Architecture, Quantum Computing, Identity and Access Management (IAM), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Extended Detection and Response (XDR), and Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) enable intelligent digital ecosystems, they simultaneously introduce sophisticated cybersecurity threats and privacy risks. Cyberattacks, ransomware, phishing, insider threats, supply chain attacks, data breaches, and AI-enabled cybercrime continue to challenge organisations worldwide.
This study presents a comprehensive interdisciplinary review of Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection in Intelligent Digital Transformation. A qualitative analytical research methodology based on secondary data is employed to investigate emerging cybersecurity technologies, privacy-preserving frameworks, intelligent security architectures, and multidisciplinary governance strategies. The research evaluates how advanced digital technologies enhance cyber resilience, data protection, regulatory compliance, and trustworthy digital transformation across healthcare, finance, manufacturing, education, transportation, smart cities, and public administration.
The findings indicate that Artificial Intelligence significantly improves threat detection, anomaly identification, malware classification, and predictive cyber defence. Blockchain enhances secure identity management and tamper-resistant data sharing, while Zero Trust Architecture strengthens access control by continuously verifying users and devices. Privacy-enhancing technologies such as federated learning, homomorphic encryption, differential privacy, and secure multi-party computation enable collaborative analytics while protecting sensitive information.
Despite these opportunities, organisations continue to face challenges including evolving cyber threats, privacy regulations, interoperability limitations, workforce shortages, high implementation costs, quantum computing risks, and ethical concerns surrounding AI-enabled surveillance. Future research should investigate quantum-resistant cryptography, autonomous AI cybersecurity systems, decentralised digital identity, adaptive Zero Trust models, and privacy-preserving machine learning for resilient digital ecosystems.
The study concludes that cybersecurity and privacy protection constitute essential foundations for intelligent digital transformation by integrating advanced security technologies, multidisciplinary collaboration, ethical governance, and resilient digital infrastructures to support sustainable and trustworthy digital societies.
