Abstract Digital innovation has fundamentally transformed the way businesses interact with consumers, create value, and compete in global markets. The rapid adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, blockchain, social media, mobile commerce, and digital platforms has reshaped consumer expectations, purchasing behaviour, and organisational strategies. Consumers increasingly rely on digital channels for product discovery, information search, personalised recommendations, online transactions, and post-purchase engagement, compelling organisations to adopt data-driven and customer-centric business models. Consequently, digital innovation has become a strategic driver of operational efficiency, market competitiveness, customer satisfaction, and sustainable business growth.
This study investigates the impact of digital innovation on consumer behaviour and business performance using a qualitative and analytical research methodology based on secondary data collected from peer-reviewed journals, industry reports, international business surveys, and digital commerce case studies. The study examines key dimensions of digital innovation, including AI-driven personalisation, omnichannel retailing, digital marketing, e-commerce platforms, customer relationship management (CRM), predictive analytics, and business intelligence systems.
The findings reveal that digital innovation significantly influences consumer decision-making by enhancing convenience, personalisation, trust, and interactive customer experiences. Businesses adopting digital technologies achieve improved customer acquisition, operational efficiency, market responsiveness, and financial performance through intelligent automation, data-driven decision-making, and enhanced customer engagement. AI-powered recommendation systems, social media analytics, and predictive marketing enable organisations to better understand consumer preferences and deliver customised products and services.
Despite these advantages, organisations face challenges related to cybersecurity, data privacy, technological disruption, digital skill shortages, ethical AI implementation, and unequal digital access. The study concludes that successful digital transformation requires strategic investment in emerging technologies, customer-centric innovation, robust cybersecurity frameworks, and continuous organisational adaptation. Future business competitiveness will increasingly depend on integrating digital innovation with sustainable and responsible business practices.
