Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Economic Growth: A Multidisciplinary Perspective

Abstract Digital innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have become transformative drivers of sustainable economic growth, reshaping industries, public governance, financial systems, healthcare, education, manufacturing, agriculture, and environmental management. The convergence of AI, big data analytics, cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, robotics, and digital platforms has accelerated productivity, innovation, and inclusive development while creating new opportunities for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Digital transformation enables organizations and governments to improve operational efficiency, optimize resource utilization, promote green technologies, enhance public service delivery, and foster knowledge-based economies. However, alongside these opportunities, challenges related to digital inequality, cybersecurity, workforce transformation, ethical AI governance, data privacy, and environmental sustainability require comprehensive multidisciplinary approaches.
This study examines the contribution of digital innovation and Artificial Intelligence to sustainable economic growth from a multidisciplinary perspective. Using a qualitative and analytical research methodology based on secondary data obtained from economics, management, information technology, public policy, sustainability studies, and innovation research, the study investigates AI-driven productivity, digital entrepreneurship, smart governance, Industry 4.0, green innovation, financial inclusion, and sustainable development. It further explores barriers to digital transformation, including infrastructure limitations, regulatory uncertainty, algorithmic bias, digital skills gaps, and cybersecurity risks.
The findings indicate that AI-powered digital innovation significantly enhances economic productivity, business competitiveness, resource efficiency, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion when supported by effective governance frameworks and human capital development. Sustainable digital transformation requires collaborative policies involving governments, industry, academia, and civil society to ensure responsible AI adoption and equitable access to digital technologies. The study concludes that digital innovation represents a fundamental catalyst for resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economic development in the twenty-first century.
