Innovation Ecosystems and Entrepreneurship in the Era of Digital Transformation

| Abstract | Digital transformation has fundamentally reshaped innovation ecosystems and entrepreneurial activities by accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, blockchain, big data analytics, digital platforms, and advanced communication networks. These technologies have transformed the ways entrepreneurs identify opportunities, develop innovative business models, access global markets, secure financing, and collaborate with governments, universities, industries, investors, and consumers. Innovation ecosystems have evolved into interconnected networks of stakeholders that collectively foster knowledge creation, technology commercialization, startup development, sustainable economic growth, and societal well-being. Digital entrepreneurship increasingly relies on platform-based business models, open innovation, digital ecosystems, and data-driven decision-making to remain competitive in rapidly changing global markets. This study examines innovation ecosystems and entrepreneurship in the era of digital transformation through a multidisciplinary perspective. Using a qualitative and analytical research methodology based on secondary data from entrepreneurship, innovation management, economics, information systems, business administration, and digital transformation literature, the study investigates the components of innovation ecosystems, digital entrepreneurial models, enabling technologies, policy frameworks, implementation challenges, and future research directions. Particular emphasis is placed on startup ecosystems, entrepreneurial finance, digital innovation, Industry 5.0, sustainability, and collaborative innovation networks. The findings indicate that digital transformation significantly strengthens entrepreneurial capabilities, innovation capacity, business resilience, knowledge sharing, and economic competitiveness by enabling collaboration among academia, government, industry, investors, incubators, accelerators, and digital platform providers. However, challenges related to digital skills, cybersecurity, financing, regulatory uncertainty, intellectual property protection, technological inequality, and ecosystem coordination continue to influence entrepreneurial success. The study concludes that sustainable innovation ecosystems supported by digital technologies are essential for promoting inclusive entrepreneurship, technological advancement, and long-term economic development. |
