Abstract Climate change, rapid urbanisation, population growth, resource scarcity, and increasing energy demand have created an urgent need for infrastructure systems that are resilient, sustainable, and technologically intelligent. The integration of renewable energy, digital technologies, and sustainable infrastructure offers a comprehensive pathway for addressing these interconnected challenges. Renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal energy, and energy storage can reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support low-carbon development. At the same time, digital technologies—including Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twins, blockchain, cloud computing, remote sensing, and advanced data analytics—enable real-time monitoring, predictive decision-making, resource optimisation, and climate-risk management. When these technologies are integrated with resilient infrastructure systems, they can enhance energy security, reduce environmental impacts, improve disaster preparedness, and support sustainable economic development.
This study examines the integration of renewable energy, digital technologies, and sustainable infrastructure for climate-resilient development through a multidisciplinary perspective. A qualitative and analytical research methodology based on secondary literature from renewable energy, environmental engineering, information technology, urban planning, infrastructure management, and climate science is adopted. The study examines the technological foundations of integrated infrastructure, applications in energy, transportation, water management, buildings, and smart cities, as well as the economic, environmental, and social benefits of digital and renewable integration. Particular attention is given to smart grids, distributed renewable energy systems, AI-based climate forecasting, Digital Twins, IoT-enabled infrastructure monitoring, energy storage, and climate-adaptive urban systems.
The findings indicate that the integration of renewable energy and digital technologies can substantially improve energy efficiency, infrastructure resilience, emissions reduction, resource management, and disaster response. However, challenges associated with high initial investment, cybersecurity, digital inequality, infrastructure interoperability, technical skills, regulatory uncertainty, and climate-related risks remain significant. The study concludes that integrated renewable-digital infrastructure should become a central component of future climate-resilient development strategies, supported by appropriate policies, investment frameworks, technological innovation, and inclusive governance.
