Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Development: Building Resilient Societies Through Multidisciplinary Research

| Abstract | Technological advancement and innovation have become fundamental drivers of sustainable development and societal resilience. Rapid developments in Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, renewable energy, digital platforms, advanced materials, biotechnology, smart infrastructure, and data analytics are transforming how societies respond to economic, environmental, health, and social challenges. However, technological progress alone does not guarantee sustainable development. Effective solutions require multidisciplinary collaboration that integrates technological capabilities with social sciences, economics, environmental studies, public policy, engineering, healthcare, and community knowledge. This study examines the relationship between technology, innovation, and sustainable development and explores how multidisciplinary research can contribute to building resilient societies. A qualitative and analytical methodology based on secondary literature is adopted to examine emerging technologies, innovation ecosystems, climate resilience, digital inclusion, sustainable infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and governance. The study proposes an integrated framework connecting technological innovation with environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic resilience, and institutional capacity. The findings indicate that multidisciplinary research can accelerate innovation by combining technical expertise with contextual knowledge and stakeholder participation. At the same time, challenges related to digital inequality, cybersecurity, data privacy, technological dependence, environmental costs, financing, skills shortages, and unequal access to innovation remain significant. The study concludes that resilient societies require technology that is not only innovative but also inclusive, affordable, environmentally responsible, secure, and adaptable. Multidisciplinary research therefore represents a critical mechanism for translating technological innovation into sustainable and socially meaningful development. |
