Abstract The rapid development of advanced computing technologies is transforming the way scientific research is conducted, analysed, and disseminated. High-performance computing, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, edge computing, big-data analytics, and advanced simulation platforms are enabling researchers to process increasingly complex datasets and investigate scientific problems that were previously computationally infeasible. This study examines the role of advanced computing technologies in scientific research and knowledge discovery, focusing on computational capacity, data-intensive research, intelligent analytics, simulation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and reproducibility. A qualitative and analytical methodology based on secondary research is adopted to examine the applications, opportunities, and challenges associated with advanced computing. The study proposes an integrated research-computing framework consisting of data acquisition, high-performance infrastructure, intelligent computation, simulation and modelling, knowledge extraction, validation, and dissemination. The analysis indicates that advanced computing can accelerate scientific discovery, improve predictive accuracy, support large-scale experimentation, and enable new forms of interdisciplinary research. However, challenges related to computational costs, data quality, cybersecurity, algorithmic bias, reproducibility, energy consumption, and unequal access to computing infrastructure remain significant. The study concludes that the future of scientific knowledge discovery will increasingly depend on the effective integration of advanced computing with human scientific expertise, transparent methodologies, open research practices, and responsible technology governance.
