Multidisciplinary Strategies for Managing Technological Risks in Digital Societies

| Abstract | The rapid diffusion of digital technologies has transformed contemporary societies by improving communication, economic activity, public services, healthcare, education, and access to information. At the same time, increased technological dependence has created complex risks involving cybersecurity, privacy, artificial intelligence, misinformation, digital inequality, infrastructure disruption, algorithmic bias, and technology-related social vulnerabilities. These risks are interconnected and cannot be effectively addressed through a single disciplinary perspective. This study examines multidisciplinary strategies for managing technological risks in digital societies by integrating perspectives from information technology, cybersecurity, law, economics, sociology, public policy, ethics, and organisational management. A qualitative and conceptual research methodology based on secondary literature is adopted to identify major categories of technological risk and examine corresponding management approaches. The analysis indicates that effective risk management requires a combination of technical controls, regulatory frameworks, organisational preparedness, public awareness, ethical governance, resilience planning, and continuous monitoring. Artificial intelligence introduces additional challenges because automated systems can amplify existing biases and create new forms of systemic risk. The study proposes an integrated technological-risk governance framework based on risk identification, assessment, prevention, mitigation, response, recovery, and continuous learning. The study concludes that digital societies require a shift from technology-specific risk management towards ecosystem-based governance that recognises interactions between technological systems, institutions, individuals, and social structures. |
