Abstract Digital technologies are fundamentally transforming entrepreneurial activity, innovation processes, and economic development by enabling organisations, entrepreneurs, universities, governments, investors, and technology providers to collaborate through interconnected digital ecosystems. Digital innovation ecosystems provide an environment in which knowledge, technologies, capabilities, financial resources, and entrepreneurial opportunities can circulate among multiple stakeholders. Within these ecosystems, collaborative entrepreneurship can accelerate innovation by combining complementary resources and expertise that individual organisations may not possess independently. This paper examines the relationship between digital innovation ecosystems and collaborative entrepreneurship and investigates how they can contribute to sustainable knowledge-based economic growth. A qualitative and conceptual research methodology is adopted through an analysis of literature concerning digital transformation, innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurship, knowledge economies, platform-based business models, and sustainable development. The study identifies digital platforms, open innovation, entrepreneurial networks, universities, research institutions, investors, governments, and technology communities as important components of digital innovation ecosystems. The analysis indicates that collaborative entrepreneurship can improve knowledge sharing, innovation capability, resource efficiency, market access, and entrepreneurial resilience. However, challenges including digital inequality, data governance, cybersecurity, intellectual-property conflicts, platform dependency, unequal distribution of ecosystem value, and lack of institutional coordination can restrict ecosystem development. The paper proposes a sustainable digital innovation ecosystem framework based on connectivity, knowledge exchange, collaborative value creation, inclusive participation, responsible governance, and long-term sustainability. The study concludes that digital innovation ecosystems can become important engines of knowledge-based economic growth when technological infrastructure is combined with entrepreneurial capabilities, institutional support, inclusive governance, and sustainable business models.
