Digital Transformation and Sustainable Business Models: Strategies for Long-Term Organizational Value Creation

Abstract Digital transformation has become a strategic priority for organizations seeking to remain competitive, resilient, and sustainable in an increasingly technology-driven business environment. The integration of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, big-data analytics, Internet of Things technologies, blockchain, automation, and digital platforms is reshaping traditional business models and creating new mechanisms for value creation. However, digital transformation should not be understood solely as the adoption of new technologies. Its effectiveness depends on the organization's ability to redesign processes, develop appropriate capabilities, strengthen organizational agility, and align technological investments with long-term strategic and sustainability objectives.
This study examines the relationship between digital transformation and sustainable business-model development, with particular emphasis on strategies that enable organizations to create long-term economic, social, and environmental value. A qualitative and conceptual research methodology based on secondary literature, academic studies, institutional reports, and strategic management research is adopted. The study analyses digital business-model innovation, organizational capabilities, customer value creation, operational efficiency, data-driven decision-making, circular business models, and digital sustainability practices. The findings suggest that organizations can achieve stronger long-term value creation when digital transformation is integrated with sustainability objectives rather than pursued as an isolated technological initiative. At the same time, organizations face challenges involving cybersecurity, digital inequality, organizational resistance, technology dependence, data governance, and the environmental costs of digital infrastructure. The study concludes that sustainable digital transformation requires a balanced approach combining technological innovation, organizational adaptability, responsible governance, stakeholder value, and environmental stewardship.
