Artificial Intelligence and Green Innovation: Examining the Pathways Toward Sustainable Corporate Performance

| Abstract | Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly becoming a strategic technology for organizations seeking to improve operational efficiency, stimulate innovation, and respond to growing environmental pressures. At the same time, green innovation has emerged as an important mechanism through which firms can reduce environmental impacts while maintaining competitiveness and creating long-term value. The intersection of AI and green innovation presents significant opportunities for organizations to develop environmentally responsible products, optimize resource consumption, reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen sustainable corporate performance. This study examines the pathways through which AI contributes to green innovation and sustainable corporate performance. A qualitative and conceptual research methodology is employed using secondary academic literature, sustainability reports, and strategic management research. The study develops an integrated framework connecting AI capabilities, data-driven decision-making, green process innovation, green product innovation, organizational capabilities, and sustainable corporate outcomes. The analysis indicates that AI can facilitate green innovation by improving environmental monitoring, resource optimization, predictive maintenance, supply-chain efficiency, and product development. However, the relationship is not automatically positive. High computational requirements, data-centre energy consumption, electronic waste, cybersecurity concerns, algorithmic bias, and inadequate organizational capabilities can reduce the sustainability benefits of AI. The study concludes that AI creates the greatest contribution to sustainable corporate performance when it is strategically integrated with green innovation objectives, responsible governance, employee capabilities, and environmental management systems. |
