Quantum Communication and Digital Security: Emerging Frameworks for Trustworthy Information Infrastructure

| Abstract | Quantum communication is emerging as a transformative paradigm for secure information exchange, particularly as advances in quantum computing challenge several cryptographic assumptions underlying contemporary digital infrastructure. Technologies such as quantum key distribution (QKD), quantum random number generation, quantum repeaters, and satellite-based quantum communication offer new approaches to protecting sensitive information against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. At the same time, the transition toward quantum-safe infrastructure requires integration between quantum communication technologies and post-quantum cryptography rather than reliance on a single security mechanism. This study examines emerging frameworks for trustworthy information infrastructure through a conceptual and comparative analysis of quantum communication and digital security. It explores the principles of quantum key distribution, quantum-resistant cryptography, trusted-node architectures, quantum networks, authentication, key management, and hybrid security models. The study further analyses challenges involving scalability, interoperability, implementation cost, distance limitations, authentication, infrastructure requirements, and regulatory governance. The findings suggest that future trustworthy information infrastructures will increasingly employ layered security architectures combining classical cybersecurity, post-quantum cryptographic algorithms, and quantum communication technologies. The study concludes that quantum communication has considerable potential to strengthen long-term information security, but successful deployment requires coordinated standards, interoperable technologies, rigorous authentication mechanisms, and carefully managed migration strategies. |
