Intelligent Semiconductor Supply Chains: Predictive Risk Management and Strategic Resilience

| Abstract | The semiconductor industry has become a critical foundation of the global digital economy, supporting artificial intelligence, telecommunications, automotive systems, healthcare technologies, defence applications and advanced manufacturing. At the same time, semiconductor supply chains have become increasingly vulnerable to geopolitical tensions, natural disasters, pandemics, trade restrictions, technological dependencies, transportation disruptions and concentrated manufacturing capacity. Traditional supply-chain management approaches based primarily on historical performance and reactive intervention are increasingly inadequate for managing these complex risks. This paper examines the emergence of intelligent semiconductor supply chains based on artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, digital twins, Internet of Things technologies, advanced forecasting and real-time risk monitoring. A conceptual framework is proposed for integrating supplier intelligence, demand forecasting, inventory optimisation, geopolitical risk assessment, logistics monitoring and scenario-based decision-making. The paper explores how predictive systems can identify potential disruptions before they materialise and enable firms to develop alternative sourcing, capacity reservation and inventory strategies. Particular attention is given to strategic resilience, including supplier diversification, regional manufacturing ecosystems, strategic stockpiling, flexible production networks and collaborative information sharing. The analysis also identifies challenges related to data quality, model uncertainty, cybersecurity, proprietary information, technological complexity and the difficulty of predicting unprecedented disruptions. The paper argues that future semiconductor supply chains should evolve from reactive risk management toward continuously monitored, AI-enabled and scenario-driven resilience architectures capable of adapting to rapidly changing technological and geopolitical conditions. |
